I don't mean to scare you. I'm not saying that it's necessarily a bad idea to *try* lithium. My main point is that in my case, I think that I stayed on lithium for way too long and have been suffering long-term adverse effects as a result. Compared with those of most meds, the effects of lithium kick in rather quickly. So, it shouldn't take too long to figure out whether your response to lithium will be favorable or unfavorable. I'm basically trying to say that if your response to lithium is unfavorable, please don't stay on it for any longer than is necessary.
