minocycline has a longer half-life (once a day) and is much easier on the stomach than doxycycline. (at least for me).
if you are male and shave, that can cause big problems. this can also cause trouble in some females with PCOS (if you don't know ask your doctor, acne is a big sign) or genetic or hormonal predispositions when they may not suspect hair removal is making extra problems. you must not overshave, you should use head to soften your skin as much as possible, and you must have a routine of skin cleansing to go with it. if you wax or tweeze, do not do so without regular skin cleansing and gentle exfoliation.
having a clean organized bathroom makes this much easier and helps the routine.
other options include birth control pills, especially yasmin and diane 35 or dianette. yasmin is more expensive but potentially cleaner. it may have a mild diuretic/hypotensive and possibly lower sodium and increase potassium levels. a drug the progestin is related to has these effects, but at the progestins dose, and how it is structurally different may negate the neccesity to worry. just thought that i should mention it.
diane 35 uses cyproterone as the progestin. i have taken this med for years at an excessively high dose because i am transgendered. it can cause B12 deficiency!!! VERY BAD! check levels regularly. pubmed probably has an article on this if your doctor is skeptical. it is also old and a lot of people have random complaints. i am not sure if there are generally any more complaints with cyproterone than with other old yet commonly used birth control progestins though.
