Don't those bite? I think we just weren't designed to handle the kind of emotional consequences that money issues can bring. Our emotions about personal "success" and evaluating outcomes and comparing ourselves to others, which profit-and-loss numbers do so acutely, probably work a lot better in a small primitive community with a barter economy and more sharing.
(I wonder if that's been explored scientifically?)
