It makes no sense to waste thousands of lives in the STAR*D protocol to test algorithms for drugs that have already been separated from placebo in previous trials.I guess that was a unclear. What I meant to say is that it makes no sense to waste thousands of lives in a protocol that allocates subjects to a placebo when the drugs being used have already separated themselves from placebo countless of times previously in controlled trials.
