In the August "Canadian Living"
magazine I happened to see an ad
for "Folgers- Simply Smooth" coffee for
the prevention of gastrointestinal
discomfort.I looked up phenols and saw that they
cause diarrhea, among other things,
depending on dose. I am not sure if
they are the active ingredient in
caffeine. At any rate, I recall that my dr.
recommended I cut out the coffee to
prevent my gastro problem, which now
on hindsight became worse when the
clonazepam was increased. At that
time I was afraid this would increase
the lithium level, and perhaps it may
have an effect. But i've been ok
in the past few days, cutting the coffee. Not being able to find this brand of
coffee yet, I decided to reduce the
potency of my morning cup (which i
take very strong), by diluting it to
half. My dr. was right-- there is an improvement. So, anyone taking drugs like lithium
or clonazepam, which in themselves
increase this problem, and the clonazepam
affects the muscles, you might want
to take this as a useful hint. There
are many ADs which affect the gut,
and phenol-substances may exacerbate
this.Squiggles
