In reply to Zoloft raising cholesterol, posted by janeB on June 20, 2006, at 16:35:05
I hate posting when I only have theoretical answers.
However, I get my cholesterol checked fairly regularly (I'm only 26, and I get it checked once a year), and I've been on several different SSRIs (but not Zoloft, yet), and I haven't noticed it raising cholesterol. However, cholesterol is a tricky thing, because family history can play a factor, and it's so different for everyone. Ever notice how some people can eat fried chicken everyday for their entire lives and have normal cholesterol levels, and some people can only LOOK at a piece of fried chicken and their cholesterol raises? I'm not suggesting that Zoloft isn't the cause, but I'd think about other factors too. I have a family history of high cholesterol, and it hasn't effected me in that way. But that's just me. Definitely talk to your doctor for a definitive answer.
