While theoretically Larry Hoover is right that everyone's reactions will be different, there is substantial evidence that emsam is very safe for a great majority of people.

According to a presentation that Somerset (the maker of the patch) made to the FDA:

"Phase III safety data found no hypertensive crises in 2,503 MDD patients at 20 and 40 milligrams (of emsam)"

The presentation is available online. I've used the search terms "emsam" and "blob" to find it-- (Lawrence Blob, MD is the medical director of Somerset). It's in a pdr file that shows in fairly accessible form a lot of data about the safety of the drug compared to oral selegiline, parnate and prozac. This is based not only on tyramine challenges, but also the history of the use of oral selegiline for parkinson's disease.
