Give it at least a week to see if your side effects subside. I am getting off of Effexor due to side effects. I mostly had nausea, headaches, and it was inconsistent with relieving my anxiety (not depression, although it kind of goes hand in hand with anxiety). When I first started Effexor, it made me sleepy, but when I got up to 150mg, my heart was pounding a lot and I couldn't sleep at all. Went back down to 75mg, and the heart pounding stopped but I was nauseated and got headaches a lot. After three months, I had enough. Anyway, it works for some people, you just won't find them here very much at Babble because we (the average human) usually only go looking for information if it's NOT working. Give it a chance, those side effects might go away. If they don't, get back to your doctor and get something else, because there are a lot of drugs out there that can help your depression.

> Hi. I'm 20 years old and have lived with depression for about 15 years of my life due to my alcoholic, abusive mother. My psychiatrist diagnosed me this morning with severe depression and post tramautic stress disorder (from my childhood), and prescribed me Effexor XR. I'm starting on 37.5 mg for the first week, and gradually doubling my dosage. I'm just curious to know how soon people who have taken this drug started feeling any symptoms. Though I just started it today, I feel really tight in the jaw and throat, my appetite has diminished greatly, and I feel really nauseous. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!
