This "war on drugs" mentality is so messed up. Alcohol prohibition got us gangs roaming the streets with automatic weapons (Al Capone, et al). Opiates *can* be abused. So what. They can also be the most therapeutic substance that there is, in all creation. Marijuana, the same. Do you know why marijuana became illegal? It's because the alcohol distillers didn't want their monopoly disrupted by competition. They didn't want to compete with something that grows like a weed. So they made movies like Reefer Madness. And they lobbied the government (read paid the politicians) to retain the monopoly on relaxation aids.
So, what do we have today? We have people spending decades of their lives overcoming the adverse effects of growing in an alcoholic environment. We have horrific automobile accidents. We have massive medical costs. And the violence that arises through the facilitation of this drug, alcohol. And some real fat cats, rolling in money.
Sorry for the soapbox moment, willy.
