Many years ago, I had it unilaterally (on only one side of my head), which results in less memory loss but is supposedly less effective than sending the current straight through the middle of your head. I went 3 times a week for 6 weeks as an outpatient.

For some people, the improvement is immediate. For others it can take more than 12 zaps.

It did nothing for me. I can't link you to any stats tonight, but to me they are unimpressive. Patients generally continue taking their antidepressant meds after treatment, and many have to have ECT repeated 3 months to a year later, when it "wears off".
But your mileage may vary. Everything works for somebody.
Are you considering getting ECT, deuce?
