It is an odd analgesic basically with some but very little affinity for opiod receptors making it non scheduled in the US and some other countries. It aformentioned also has receptor affinity to 5HT and therefore should be used in caution with other serotonin enhancing agents as serotonin syndrome could develop.

Its main use is analgesia. It has a black box warning about seizure potential. It could still produce opiod like dependence in those who are already susceptible or who have taken substantial amounts of those though that also is low.
