I was afraid too, but Effexor worked better than any other AD had for me for almost two years. Then it lost its effectiveness and I switched to Lexapro with absolutely NO discontinuation side effects. If it hadn't pooped out on me I would still be taking it. It can be a very powerful and effective AD. You won't know if it works for you until you try it. I lost weight while on it, which I needed to do and I was much more energetic than I had been in years.
