In reply to strange symptoms, posted by nellie7 on April 8, 2006, at 12:22:43
Isn't it odd, the little symptoms many of us have?
I periodically get these "flashes" of panic/anxiety for no specific reason. These are accompanied by strange, usually violent thoughts that occur for a split second in my mind (something like an image of skinned wolves lungeing at me, etc). I also have the feeling of like a physical sensation inside my brain, of something moving or rattling around in there. It's a very strange feeling. I've talked to a couple of docs about it, they always shrug their shoulders. Some chalk it up to OCD, some to panic disorder, I think it's neither (I suspect it's something akin to a very small seizure in the limbic system. That's just my best semi-educated guess, I have no way to verify it. It's too fleeting and disconnected to life events to me to seem like obsessions, and it's not anxiogenic enough to really seem like panic.) I get it for about 20 minutes, usually once a week. Doesn't respond to any medications except anticonvulsants (get them less frequently), but it goes away too fast to try a quick-onset benzo. It does not occur more or less frequently based on life circumstances, as far as I know, although if I have wild variations in my sleep then that seems to affect it.
Brains are weird...
