I don't know about serotonin syndrome. I mean, the potential is obviously there. But then again, your doc probably wouldn't have allowed it if he had any doubts.
I would be slightly more inclined to think in terms of prozac withdrawals. Your body is just now being introduced to a strange new molecule, which in itself could cause some not well feelings. But in addition, there are prozac withdrawals going on too. Its withdrawals are not so sudden as other ssri's, but I know from personal experience they are real and they can be severe. When prozac was nearly out of my system, it got downright scary how aweful I felt.
Just because the maoi is holding up serotonin levels doesn't mean you aren't still going to feel withdrawals from removal of the prozac molecule.Just a thought. I think for the majority of people, stopping any ssri regardless of what other med immediately takes its place is going to cause some very not-well feelings...flu like kind of stuff, muscle cramps, lethargy or anxiety, tremors and shaking, sleep problems, etc. All jumbled up and confused with new side effects of the maoi.
It's tough I know. To be safe, you might want to cut the maoi in half, or maybe do it once every other day, for a couple weeks. And call the doctor if you instincts tell you something is wrong.
