In reply to Lithium dosing frequency, posted by Talbot on March 14, 2006, at 23:26:02
> I’ve read posts elsewhere on the internet where some patients take all their Lithium for the day in one dose, and others where it is spaced throughout the day (For instance, 900 mg all in the evening vs. 450 mg 2X per day vs. 300 mg 3X per day. What are the reasons for this difference in dosing frequency, and is one more prevalent/effective than another?
I think that some years ago, there was
a "theory" going around that the kidneys
received protection from one dose at once;
but that is no longer the practice.
Personally, I can't imagine the virtue
of any drug being given all at once as
many of them are cardiotoxic and stress
the body. Just think of drinking a whole
bottle of wine at once, instead of in
smaller doses.Squiggles
