Well I'm the first one here, sostart in the spirit of phillipa's post... -- I suffer from depression (atypical ?)/aniexty/panic attacks:
Prozac - 20mg - 5 months - Didn't work, lots of aniexty, weight loss (felt contiunally nausous), suicidal tendancies. I also started self harming on this drug, became rather alienated from my friends....
Effexor - 75mg - 6 months - Brain zaps, spacey feeling, feeling tired, weight gain (I liked this the most, but that isn't saying much)
Celexa - 20mg, 30mg - 1 year - TIRED TIRED TIRED, no motivation, weight gain, sleeping all the time, no energy, mannn, I wish I'd realised sooner that celexa was making me soooo apathic and unmotivated!!! Blunted me emotionally. And I was described as depressed by my friends on this drug.
Reboxetine - 10mg (?) - 3 months - well I could concrentate on this, and it was good for aniexty and panic, and it was pretty weight neutral, in fact I found it hard to put weight on. But it was kinda like continually being 'startled' so it was abit weird. It must have messed up my hormones somehow, becauase my periods stopped, and I got acne. The reboxetine slightly overlapped with the celexa withdrawal.
Wellbutrin - (?) - two weeks - hmm, this one kinda let me refuse temptation, (I could say no to cake!!) and I felt mildly eurphoric at the begining, but it made my anxiety much worse, and I couldn't stop itching on it, and I got hives in weird places like my elbows, knees. I stopped it after the hives.
St John's wort - one pill 300mg - currently taking - this one is by far the best med I have tried - no side effects (hoorah!) and er, has an noticeable positive effect on my mood. I have to say that maybe this is because of a placebo effect, but if it is, then I don't care because it seems to work, and anyway there are no side effects. Anyway, there are lots of studies showing that SJW does work.
So all in all, I particulary don't like SSRIs and SNRIs or even SSNRIs. The most effective med for me has been SJW. I don't know whether thats because I may have atypical depression which responds best to MAOIs, and my good experiences have been with SJW which may act like a very weak MAOI, I don't know.
But please bear in mind folks I have never seen a pdoc, these meds are prescribed by a GP here in the UK, and man, it was tricky convincing him to let me try wellbutrin (which is only licensed in the UK for smoking cessation) let alone anything more exotic. I'm still waiting to see a pdoc, although I think I might be waiting forever. On the upside, this has all been free, and the most I've ever paid for course of drugs is $9. But we do pay alot of tax here in the UK......
