I've never tried Klon, but I've taken neurontin for a few yrs now. My GAD is complicated by major depression, so taking a benzo regularly wasn't a great option for me. I found neurontin to quiet my mind (i.e., rumination). On the other hand, an SSRI helped me more w/ physical symptoms of anxiety. My pdoc did tell me that most people found the opposite to be true.
Neurontin might be worth a try. It is pretty low on side effects.
I also found that taking a sleep med in order to help me get a good night's sleep helped my anxiety a lot.
