Actually in all seriousness, I self medicated my bipolar disorder for years with marijuana. But I've found better, legal medicines that have fewer side effects.
Also, even though the popular belief is that MJ is a soft drug, there is some research out there that shows MJ releases dopamine in the same part of the brain, the nucleus accumbens, that is involved with heroin and cocaine addiction.
From my experience I had strong cravings when I stopped smoking. I was definitely addicted. And in my case it definitely led to harder drugs of abuse.
I think there is promise for MJ as medicine or more likely, the CB1 and CB2 receptors are logical targets for rationally designed drugs. The problem with MJ is that there are so many active chemicals and the composition and potency is all over the map.
