The only sure thing is that I have AD/HD. Multiple diagnoses confirms it, especially considering I was diagnosed at a very young age, like in kindergarten, and I cannot even remember seeing a doctor or taking medication. Apparently, from very old letters from my kindergarten teacher it helped a lot with my ability to pay attention and engage myself in work until completion.
I took what I like to call a high dose schedule of Adderall in college when I majored in computer science. It worked wonders but thinking back the pdoc prescribed too much from the get-to. I started with 20mg and took it a few times a day. Then I became tolerant so the pdoc upped it to the 30mg tablets. This was the point when Adderall became my own worst enemy. I became obssessed with the computer, with computer programming and the exciting world of the Linux operating system which is a free clone of UNIX. Anyway, I would stay awake up for long periods of time without even intending to...So, then I took a long break from it for over 2.5 years. I wasn't doing well so I restarted Ritalin, changed docs due to financial reasons, and then got on board with Adderall again. This time at a much lower daily dosage. So, now I'm older (not yet 30 yrs old) and wiser. The pdoc prescribes Adderall 10mg to be taken 3x/day. Maybe it's other non-psych drugs or other medical conditions interfering making me more sensitive, but I am more sensitive to this drug now; 5mg to 7.5 works very well without ill effects. I take it 3-4x/day depending on a number of factors like how long my work day will be, housework, bills, etc. It's an extremely effective medication for AD/HD. Hindsight, which is always 20-20, is helping me realize that you have to respect Adderall or it will destory you. You need to be cautious about it because there's a strong potential for dependence & misuse. Abusing a medication like Adderall could ruin your life and cause a snowball of unwanted problems. Yes, it can be your worst enemy. All controlled medication have that potential. Of course, on the other token it can make the positive difference between night and day, between success and failure as an adult. It could keep you moving forward rather than drifting in no particular direction. I read a lot of stories here about people misusing and abusing their medication. Please stay on track and don't get yourself addicted. Be smart. A drug is a drug is a drug is a drug...
