Klonopin seems to have a reputation much more than other benzodiazepines for depression.

It used to be sold additionally under the name Zyban, so its not surprising that it helped with chewing tobacco. I'm a little concerned though about obsessions -- at least in me, it exacerbated "mental garbage" type OCD at night and made sleeping awful.

Well even Librium is used in alcoholism...
Valium or Librium could be a substitute for Xanax which has a short half life, given your tolerance problems, and the greater half life of them, especially Librium.
