I'm not sure why your doctor is leaning toward this antipsychtotic instead of zyprexa or seroquel. With sensitivity to side effects, I personally would have gone for zyprexa. I've heard of a lot of people doing well with zyprexa or seroquel, but hardly any with geodon. Geodon has some serotonin agonism to it, and some serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibition to it, all of which are likely to increase anxiety before they have a chance to work and reduce it longer term. Zyprexa or seroquel don't have those complicated mechanisms and usually work right away.
What about the benzos? Xanax? Klonopin? Valium? That to me seems like a more straight forward uncomplicated inexpensive way to treat anxiety and have minimal side effects compared to other meds. Sure, the doc would probably worry about dependence or addiction. But honestly, I had a harder time reducing dosage of zyprexa or paxil than I did xanax.
