Formally diagnosed - bipolar - med induced

Posted by 4WD on January 12, 2006, at 20:46:09

I saw my pdoc today and told him about the hyper jittery wired feeling that got so much worse when I increased my Celexa from 10 to 20mg. I included a mood chart that showed alternating days of: horrible despair, extreme wired and jittery feeling, feeling excellent, feeling suicidally depressed, feeling more or less okay, feeling suicidally depressed and jittery, wired, agitated and scared all at the same time. (This is in one week)

I asked if this was med induced hypomania, he agreed it probably was, especially considering that all SSRIs and SNRIs except Effexor made me more anxious and more nervous and wired and so did Wellbutrin and desipramine.

So I got formally diagnosed as bipolar with mixed states today.

Is this bipolar 2? 3? 4? What do you call it?

He switched me from Celexa back to Effexor and added Depakote. I always took 37.5 Effexor and I'm starting with that and going up to 75 if I can tolerate it. Starting Depakote tonight at 250mg (extended release) and going to 500 if the 250 is well tolerated.

What do you guys think of this plan?

Marsha
