Riluzole acts against anxiety disorder

Posted by valene on January 2, 2006, at 15:31:51

From Reuters Health: Dec. 21 - "Results of a study published in the December issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry suggest that riluzole is a safe, effective, and rapidly acting anxiolytic medication for patients with generalized anxiety disorder."

Riluzole has been thoroughly discussed here for depression, and with mixed results from what I have seen on a search of psychobabble. Has anyone taken it for anxiety?

It is a drug that was developed for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis but now they are finding it works for anxiety - something to do with the anti-glutamatergic properties, I believe.
