antipsychotics are the big offenders when it comes to akathisia (epsecially the old ones, but the new ones do it a good bit, too); antidepressants also cause akathisia, though no one seems to know just how commonly this occurs. Anyway, it sounds like maybe the lamictal is boosting the action of the ADs or altering their functions in some way that akathisia becomes a problem. I dont know to tell you...perhaps you could lower the dose of any AP/AD drugs you are taking while using lamictal? You may also want to consider going AP/AD free...in bipolar disorder, most patients can be stabilized on a mood stabilizer or mood stabilizer combo, so an AP isn't usually necessary...also, there's a move away from using AD drugs in bipolar. For anxiety and insomnia, benzos and newer sedatives would probably be preferable...for depression, the first step should probably be changing mood-stabilizer dosage or adding another mood stabilizer agent. Good luck!
