hey, sorry i was going to write you earlier but am having trouble doing everything. especially with words. but there is a study going on comparing spect results of chronic lyme patients with other patients including those with depression, anxiety and healthy controls. they are very nice on the phone and will schedule a telephone interview with you. unfortunately i could not be eligible as i do not have american citizenship. but anyway, they are a research programme at columbia university if that is accessible or you are willing to travel... if you participate i believe they compensate financially (prolly not enough to cover transportation if you live far away, the lady said) and they treat you for free! (PLUS you get the SPECT scan!) and they seem to be doing amazing work in studies for the neuropsychiatric and psychiatric manifestations of lyme (recognizing that 90% in a sample of 3000 suffered from clinical depression as a co-morbidity)... very interesting stuff. anyways here are some links:
http://www.columbia-lyme.org/flatp/brainimgstud-n.html
(it says not yet recruiting, but if you call, they should be)212-543-6510 --this is the number to call on the contacts page.
anyways, they say that if you are outside of commuting distance of new york, it may not make sense to participate... but in this study i believe it is only 2 visits you make, and if you are consider to travel to a dr. amen clinic and technically end up paying more, this could still very easily work out instead.
the thing about spect scans with lyme is that they cause the results to show global brain hypoperfusion (including in frontotemporal areas of course), so a clear image of what could help your brain may not be so clear until the lyme is effectively dealt with... which may even take several months of a combination of intravenous antibiotics. (from what im reading)
