It sounds like Parnate is a good choice if you are so anergic and have difficulties initiating movement (psychomotor retardation). I would not begin looking for true antidepressant results until you get to 40mg. It might take two to three weeks from that point on. The range of effective dosages for severe depression lies between 40mg - 80mg. However, if your doctor is aggressive enough, he might make 60mg your initial target dosage. Under special circumstances, one can go much higher. If your doctor wants to target 40mg, give it at least three weeks before increasing to the next dosage, and so on...

With so severe a depression, it might take a higher dosage and a longer period of time to respond.
