I just wanted to say that although Lamictal is approved for bipolar, it is widely used for people who are not bp--like for depression, especially when other stuff hasn't been very helpful. However, (I think) it needs to be taken along with an antidepressant to be helpful--do you currently take one?
Also, it sounds like your doc is really leaving you in the dark. He should really be doing more to make sure that you know why you are taking a drug and potential side effects. Is he a psychiatrist or just your regular doc? If he's not a psychiatrist, you should get one. This stuff can be too tricky for docs who didn't specialize in it.
I can't speak so much about the side effects of Lamictal. I was on it for a bit, but I didn't have any side effects (or effects for that matter!)
Best,
EE
