compazine and phenergan are both (i believe) phenothiazines--they're in the same category as Thorazine and the other phenothiazines. The big difference is that these drugs are used at relatively low doses. so *usually* the psychiatric effects aren't too pronounced. However..they can be quite pronounced, especially in susceptible individuals. What you were experiencing was probably Akathisia, which is common with antipsychotics, especially the old ones (it also occurs with antidepressants, the atypical antipsychotics, and BuSpar.)
