I've got atypical depression wi anxiey, so erm, diidn't think they'd be much good to be honest. I thought I'd exhaust the SSRIs etc!! No, I'm scared of side effects.>>
TCA's are good, but only work for panic attacks, not anxiety as such. BuSpar is even worse: it won't even stop a panic attack :-( It does help as an antidepressant/anticataleptic. It's worth a try, especially since no prior dependency is required to obtain a prescription (that's a sorry criterion for dispensing meds, but psychiatry is full of many unexplainables). I would look for an antidepressant effect, not an antianxiety effect; that way you might be less disappointed.
There's some evidence that adding BuSpar can help with severe depression. Its cousin gepirone is supposedly effective for atypical depression all by itself, but is produced by a small company, and in America, that is a major obstacle to approval. (I am about to get political, and so will end here. If I get banned from this site, it would be silly to have it provoked by something as innocuous as BuSpar.)
