hey everyone! OK...so, now that there's more emphasis on Diagnosing bipolar in the depressed phase, I'm kind of wondering: does psychotic depression (in adolescence/young adulthood) signify bipolar? I experienced psychotic depression, possibly a psychotic "mixed-episode" when I was 17; it happened again when I was 20. I'm 21 now. I'm not on any medication, but I am having pretty bad anxiety...its just, my anxiety seems different from friends who have what I guess is considered a *pure* anxiety disorder. It shifts more, takes on different forms but is always...there. I'm doing OK off meds, I sometimes think a sort of extended "bipolar spectrum" approach could help explain my problems. My *ideal* treatment, if I needed drugs, would be doing things purely as-needed--as-needed benzos for anxiety, as-needed sleeping pills, possibly as-needed neuroleptics if I felt *really* bad. I just feel like daily, long-term medication kind of messes up my psyche's own equilibrium; ideally, I'd just have something to throw everything back into whack and then get on with my business. Plus, I'm just curious...psychotic depression isn't talked about very much, especially in young people.
