Normal ambien is OK. I've actually just restarted it after having been off of it for over a year.
My history is that I'd take 10 mgs, then be wide awake 4-5 hours later and wind up taking another 10 mgs. The problem I found at the 20 mg/day dose was daytime anxiety and eventual tolerance. I'm hoping I can avoid or minimize these effects at a lower dosage.
I've reluctantly restarted ambien because even 4 hours sleep is currently an improvement for me. Last night I took 10 mgs, slept beatifully for 4.5 hours and then bam, wide awake. I refuse to go back up the 15-20 mg range again though.
To be honest I'm not holding out much hope for the CR version, but I'd consider even a marginal improvement to six hours per night a success. I've recently tried Rozerem and Lunesta and neither can put me to sleep like ambien.
I've also ordered a light box btw.
