One of the people who used to come here told us about being in a drug trial, for a drug that had nothing whatsoever to do with psychiatric illness. He had recently stopped taking an antidepressant, and he experienced a relapse of depression during the course of the study. Because of this, "worsening depression" was listed as a side effect of the drug, even though his depression was totally unrelated to it. Keep that story in mind whenever you get scared by reading side effects.
Also, you're certainly not going to get *all* the side effects listed -- if you get any at all -- and, even if you do, most side effects are transitory, and will fade once you adjust to the medication.
I do understand being afraid of starting a drug, since I go through it myself, but I hope this has set your mind at ease a bit. Effexor can be a very good medication for many people. I hope you're one of them.
