How do Prothiaden and doxepin compare?

Posted by ravenstorm on October 16, 2005, at 9:16:44

Wondering how the two drugs compare. Found a study that said prothiaden causes less sedation and weight gain, but I'm not sure why or how.

I'm extremely med sensitive/medication intolerant at the moment (well for the last three horrible years) so the odds of me being able to handle a tricyclic are probably slim to none but you never know.

The only tricyclic I have ever tried was nortriptyline. On a very low dose (nowhere near theraputic levels) I had an extrememly rapid heart beat that kept me up all night (literally felt like my heart was pounding out of my chest--pharmacist actually suggested I discontinue based on how long this lasted!), lost six pounds of water weight the first night and fell down the stairs and broke my toe due to dizziness.

OH, I also have lowish blood pressure 90/68 and some dizziness without even being on meds.
