hey! using antipsychotics (preferably at LOW doses) to help with some forms of depression has been done for a long, long time--Triavi, the perphenazine+Elavil combo, for instance, has been used since the '60s for this purpose. With the newer atypicals, research shows that combining them with antidepressants actually leads to an **increase** in the concentrations of key neurotransmitters that are often at lower levels during a depressive phase. Keep in mind, though, that any antipsychotic can induce depression if the dose is high enough. I took low dose abilify, and I think the best results are with abilify+antidepressant(s), with the abilify below 10mgs, unless you're having issues with psychosis, in which case it may be best to go up to 10-15mgs.
