Hi,
> I think the main problem is that they don't really know what it is yet so that complicates treatment. I also think that many different things are lumped into the same category and called CFS.
Exactly. I think it's easier for them to do this than actually have to do some detective work and find out what the problem really is.
> One result of my (or our?) illness may be the hypersensitive dopamine autoreceptors according to Dr. Goldstein. If that's the case, then I'm still fighting the disease on a daily basis.
That's the premise that I've decided to go with.
> How long have you had CFS? Is it intermittent or constant?
They started throwing the CFS/FMS diagnosis at me years ago. Frankly, I didn't appreciate it because it gives them an out. There are a million possible reasons why a person might have fatigue and/or pain. It's their job to find the cause, not just to through some catch-all label on it. Whatever I have is not intermittent. It's been a slow downward progression with steep drop offs after particularly stressful periods. More recently I've had doctors tell me it sounds like MS and I should be tested. Considering that I've been telling them I have an uncle with MS, you think they would have brought that up sooner instead of sticking me with the CFS/FMS label. Not that I think I have MS. It just helps to prove my point that they use the chronic fatigue label to keep from actually having to look for the real problem.
> Have any medications or antidepressants helped much with this?
I need dopamine...dopamine!!!
