So everyday, just like clockwork, I wake about 5am and my whole body is shivering and shaking, the same way it would look if someone was freezing to death. I feel butterflies in my stomach, and indeed the muscles on my stomach are twitching all over the place. Coffee and cigs mellows it out. Then anxiety or akathisia or whatever it is takes over the rest of the day, and it is fierce. I go from feeling pretty good to feeling suicidally depressed and back all in a day, but going 1000mph on the inside the whole time. Two hours after my zyprexa dose, I'm perfectly fine.
New pdoc today. She seemed awesome. Very concerned and very thorough. She thinks I am in a bipolar mixed manic depressive state with rapid cycling, probably triggered from longtime prozac 5 years, switching doses, and trying st johns wort, in the absence of a mood stabilizer. She wants me to research and consider depakote for our meeting next week.
In the meantime, she wants me to do some diagnostic work. I usually take my 5mg zyprexa at 5pm. She wants me to instead try taking 2.5mg at bedtime and 2.5 in the morning. And increase fish oil from 1000mg day to 3000mg day. And she took blood tests for some kind of bacteria or viruses that might be interfering with intestinal absorbtion.
Weird stuff. After thinking about it though, I think she is right. This is rapid cycling dysphoric mania. Zyprexa works great, but only for about 8 hours, thus her idea to try twice a day dosing. We'll see what happens.
Any thoughts or comments much appreciated.
