Ambien and Klonopin cross-tolerance?

Posted by Rocket Jackson on September 22, 2005, at 0:40:05

I've been taking Klonopin 1-2x/week prn for social anxiety for three years now with no need for dose escalation. I recently started Cymbalta (for anxiety as recommended by a psych NP... not sure if I understand the rationale but went with it anyway) and then added Ambien 10mg each night to treat the insomnia I was suffering from the Cymbalta. Now, since being on the Ambien for a few weeks, it seems I've needed increased doses of Klonopin to achieve the desired effect. With Ambien as a GABA-1 agonist and Klonopin a GABA agonist, I guess it would make sense that cross-tolerance might exist, but has it been described scientifically or anecdotally? Any similar experiences out there? Thanks!
