Lunesta is probably better with long-term use than Ambien (the Ambien people didn't do long-term use studies back in the day, so you cant really do a head-to-head comparison). Add-ons might also help...neurontin, seroquel, remeron, trazadone, klonopin, an extra ativan or two, etc. can be added to the ambien, or used in its place (Ambien withdrawal isn't *usually* a big problem, but after 6 years of regular use you might want to take it very slow it you do switch over). Lunesta would probably be the easiest option (when I took Ambien, I used as-needed add-ons instead of doing an all out switch to another sleep aid). Good luck, and keep us all posted!
