Are you bipolar? What are the major symptoms of your depression?

I was never so hideously and painfully depressed as I was when I tried taking moclobemide as monotherapy. I am bipolar. I spent days laying on the couch, curled up in the fetal position and wimpering in pain. Several others have described similar types of reactions to moclobemide.

That being said, there are people with mild depression who do well on moclobemide. It usually acts very quickly, often within the first week. When successful, it is energizing and can promote clearer thinking. This occurs at relatively low dosages of 300mg. Unfortunately, for people with more severe depression, these improvements are transient and require continued dosage escalation to try to maintain. Dosages up to 1200mg have been used. My guess is that it is no longer used very often because it is relatively inneffective. Of course, for some it is a miracle drug. I don't know of any symptom clusters that are predictive of improvement or exacerbation.
