Willy, it has often been said that the entry criteria, medical training, internship, and psych training are the worst possible for the requirements of the job. Add some less than wonderful reasons for becoming psychdrs (easier than other fields, half crazy themselves).
But even so.....I must just be lucky where I live. My GP bulkbills (costs nothing), talks about anything we like for 30 minutes, (Bolivia, friendship, psychoanalysis, growing older, painful deaths etc) lends me books and offered to lend me his car(!) once to go 200km away. I figured what he was doing was really best described as pastoral care of the nonreligious variety.
Interestingly he did a PhD in philosophy on ideas of health vs illness, before doing his med degree. He does without a receptionist.
Isn't there some ghetto of nice alternative people somewhere around where you live. They can be a bit thin on the ground these days.
