Indiplon has a ~10 fold greater affinity than zolpidem for GABA-A receptors that contain the alpha1 subunit (http:/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=15256540). Also, indiplon has a shorter half-life (~ 30 minutes) than zolpidem (~ 2.5 to 2.6 hours). As a result, I imagine that the modified release (MR) version of indiplon will be more popular than the immediate release (IR) version.
