Hi!
I'd imagine that a short-acting barbiturate would be a useful treatment for an acute panic attack in a patient who didn't respond well to benzodiazapines.
Giving a patient with panic disorder a prescription for a couple of Seconal capsules to carry around might be helpful. It would be reassuring to know that treatment was immediately avialable in the event of a panic attack. For someone that didn't respond well to benzos, a Seconal capsule might avoid a visit to the ER.
