Like I said, most doctors are not trained to use brain scans to diagnose mental illness. There are only a remote number of doctors who do this, and their work is controversial.
Dr. Amen does do brain scans, but some people citicize his work because it is not an exact science.
Its not that it is theoretically a bad idea, but the science is not at a level where the common psychiatrist can take a brain scan an turn it into a correct diagnosis.
For instance. Lets say the brain scan showed prefrontal cortex hypofunction.
That could indicate, bipolar depression, unipolar depression, schisophrenia, ADD, ADHD, chronic fatigue syndrome, etc.
All diseases that are treated entirely differently.
The only reason they'd do a brain scan is if they thought you had brain cancer, or brain dammage due to an injury etc.
I don't even think that SLS has had a brain scan. And he's had ECT !
