I've been told that, because of some weird regulatory thing, Luvox is not available through the drug company compassionate care program right now, but that the company involved is trying to rectify that. I didn't pay attention to the details, but it basically means that patients using the needy meds type programs can't get it right now, but might be able to in the future, once the paperwork gets sorted out.
That might also effect Medicaid's ability to get it cheaply, in which case it would come off their formulary.
In your brother's case, has he been on it before? If so, maybe the doctor can appeal it and have it provided ex-formulary. There are contingency arrangements that allow that, if you're willing to fight with a clerk with a high school education who wants to tell you that your doctor is obviously wrong...
