Constantly exhausted - will this get any better?

Posted by derniercri on July 13, 2005, at 10:51:08

I was diagnosed with BP II a few months ago. I started on Wellbutrin, and then we added Lamictal, which was working well until I developed a very, very, very bad rash (which, for those of you on Lamictal know, is a very, very, very bad sign). So, after a few weeks of just Wellbutrin, we tried Depakote. I was hit with one of the most intense depressions I've ever had. So, Depakote was out. PDoc decided that Lithium would be the next drug to try, and I've been on it for a few weeks now.

My nausea is slowly subsiding (it was killer at first), but I can't get over the constant exhaustion. I'm getting plenty of sleep, yet I still feel like a zombie 1/2 the day (and I'm not talking about being "tired" - I'm exhausted to the point that I can barely keep my eyes open at times). I'm really worried about this, since I'm about to start a difficult grad program, and I'm afraid I won't be able to stay awake through the classes, much less be awake and alert enough to do all of the work.

Has anyone had this problem? Did it go away, or did you have to try a different drug, or...what do you do? I'm at a total loss here, and my doctor doesn't seem to be taking this side effect seriously.

Thanks!
