My son who's 15 has had this. It first happened when he was 8. Scared the sh*t out of the poor little sod. He experiments with lucid dreaming on purpose now though.
I think sleep paralysis is normal occasionally. Having it regularly probably isn't normal though and I would think it's a product of the severe anxiety you suffer. I've been told you get it only when you sleep on your back (huh! what if you turn on to your back in your sleep yeah I know)
