Tetracycline antibiotic potentiates Parnate?

Posted by Don_Bristol on July 4, 2005, at 17:05:49

There are lots of possible types of interactions such as :

I believe there are some meds which are said to potentiate the effect of Parnate (ISTR that some antifungals like Lamisil have this effect).

And then there will be meds which also potentiate Parnate but which are not in the medical literature and are not a part of medical orthodoxy.

I am having a guess but I suspect that the tetracyclines could be a candidate. I have been taking Doxycycline for only four and have been up all thru one night and feel like I could stay up for most of another night. I never had that normally.

Of course, it could be the ailment I am taking the Doxycycline for (some bowel infection) which is doing the potentiating rather than the Doxycycline.

Or I could be the Doxycycline and another med interacting in a way to create additional stimulation or creating something which interacts with Parnate.

Well, it *seems* to me as if the Doxycycline is potentiating the Parnate. Does anyone else here have a similar experience with the tetracyclines and an MAOI?

Don.
