> I took Lunesta (1mg) last night for the first time for my Parnate-induced insomnia and hated it. I slept for about an hour and then was up for the rest of the night. It also left a disgusting taste in my mouth which is still lingering even though I took the pill over 24 hours ago. I would still have been willing to try it again tonight if I had not had one of my most depressed days in a long time today -- cried a lot and wanted to die. Ironically, I just wanted to sleep to get past those feelings and of course, couldn't. Anyway, based on past postings about Lunesta increasing depression, I think I'm going to try melatonin as a sleep aid. Any other suggestions/stories about similar experiences? Take care, Lauren
Lunesta comes in 1, 2, and 3mg. I have always had bad insomnia, I currently take 4mg. I can concur with the "disgusting taste"... its kinda metallic, although I have gotten used to it -- its sorta a reminder to me actually when it starts to be effective so I can head up to bed.
I would give it another try or ask your doctor for a higher dose. The metallic taste really should dissappear after the night, but everyone's experience is different. There is always also Ambien, which although hasn't been FDA approved for longterm use, I certainly have taken 10-20mg for a long period of time and depending on your doctor, they may also feel that is a valid use.
Sonata is a third, although for me it wasn't strong enough; its also a try and maybe again, your doctor may know the right strength of it.
As for melatonin, remember it is a hormone, so just be aware of its possible mix with psychiatric conditions.
Just my 2c,Hope you feel better
