I finally got some testing done and they diagnosed me with severe depression and schizoaffetive disorder I think. the negative effects of schizophrenia really described how I was feeling. my type of depression was of the variety that I felt like I was in a deep pit or some kind of black hole. talking to people was not pleasurable for me, I could never make a connection with people. very serious and an awful way to live.

Probably. That's the bad news.

I guess it depends on the accuracy of your diagnosis and your history of pathology. If you are truly schizoid or bipolar, the answer is most likely yes. However, you do not have to be on Geodon for the rest of your life. You can try other antipsychotics with more favorable side effects. New drugs are coming. Who knows what will come in your lifetime.

Think positive. You are extremely fortunate that your illness responds well to a drug that currently exists. That's the good news. There are plenty of people who are refractory to treatment. You will eventually accept your illness and the idea that it must be treated long term.
