In reply to how soon too soon to change p-doc?, posted by maggie1970 on June 15, 2005, at 20:01:57
> I started a new p-doc about a month and a half ago. I'm taking dexadrine and clonazepam. I'm trying to work with someone who is willing to try something other than SSRIs and am so willing to try something new (I come to this site to check on how others do often on something). I was taking dex for a little focus trouble, motivation and lethargy trouble, and gave me the lift I needed to actually get dressed and out the door! WOW! But wow, what a crash. With my last doc, who was willing to try new things, he tried spansules, but they didn't seem to work. Unfortunately, he doesn't take my insurance anymore. This new one is actually a geriatric p-doc, and though I am not, (am 34), I wonder if there is some generational thing. I went in today to tell him how badly I felt after the dex, what a crash. I told him I read about a few things that may prevent a crash, or work on making it better. He told me I don't need anything else when the crash isn't that long, just try more dex. When I told him I really felt down, like a hopeless down that I never felt when on the dex, he told me, then wait until it goes away. But I was down, I mean so down when coming off of it (I hate to tell you how bad). I had so many thoughts on things I could use, not dex, but gabatril, neurontin, maybe the dex wasn't a name brand (I read about that here, and that the brand name is better than the others and he told me they are all brand names!?) I was desperately searching for new things to talk about, a bunch so he might think one of them was worth something. But he vetoed everything I suggested, and prescribed adderall xr though i told him about 4 times i was nervous about the crash with that since I had learned that the crash many others here wrote about was so angry. So he prescribed that, wouldn't prescribe my clonazepam again which I have been using steadily morning and night for a long time, and told me to start the adderall xr. I feel like a guinea pig. I'm really nervous. Can anyone tell me if they had any decent adderall experiences? I'm so nervous to try it. When is it too soon to change p-docs? After two times? I called him twice over the month and a half since we last met with questions and he never called back, which my last doctor always would. I would love to hear from anyone on any of this! Thanks!
He wouldn't represcribe your Klonopin? How long have you been taking that? He expects you to just quit it abruptly? If that's the case then yesterday is not too soon to switch.
